When did DISPERATOR start to manufacture glass crushers?
DISPERATOR has manufactured and sold glass crusher for installation on land or at sea since the middle of the 1980s.
Where is Model GKF550 manufactured?
All DISPERATOR glass crushers are manufacture on our premises in Sweden.
How large are the glass particles after grinding?
Model GKF550 grinds glass bottles and jars to particles the size of sand/small stones. These particles have no sharp edges and are collected at the outlet in a plastic bag under the outlet from the crusher.
Can operators inadvertently harm themselves while working the crusher?
The 170mm diameter feeding tube is 910 mm long. To gain access to the grinder the tube must be removed. In doing so the motor control circuit is broken and the motor will stop and not start again until the feeding tube is fitted into its correct position again.
Where is the outlet placed?
The outlet is placed in front of the crusher under the inlet tube.
How many bottles per batch can the glass crusher grind?
The bottles are continually fed into the crusher at intervals depending upon the size of bottle to be crushed. The crusher is fed one bottle at a time. It takes about 5 - 10 seconds to grind a bottle. Any number of bottles can be ground until the collection bag is filled.
How often must the bag be emptied?
The normal weight a person can carry would be about 20kg. The bag is replaced when the bag is filled with 20kg ground glass.
Where are glass crushers installed?
Glass crushers can be installed in kitchens or cellars to restaurants. The principle is to reduce the area taken up by empty glass bottles. Storage areas are expensive which otherwise could be used more effectively.
Is there a danger of escaping glass dust harming the operator?
A suction unit connected to the inlet tube prevents any glass dust escaping into the area around where the operator is working.
Is the crusher noisy?
The noise level is about 85dB (A) as the bottle is first broken but fall to about 75dB (A) afterwards as the grinder continues to grind the glass to sand.
How often does the grinding unit have to be replaced?
The life of the grinding unit is dependent upon the number of bottles ground but an estimated life of 2 years expected before the grinding unit has to be replaced. The grinding unit is manufacture from a special cast iron alloy for long life and durability.
Are spare parts readily available?
Spare parts included in Service Package 1 and 2 (see GK-Serv-Ex-Eng-061001) are stock items at DISPERATOR AB.
Is there a possibility that the grinder jams?
If jamming occurs, the inlet tube can be easily removed to gain access to the grinding unit. The glass crusher is delivered with a jam release wrench which is placed over the centre nut of the rotary shredder and turn backwards and forwards until the shredder revolves freely again. Always use protective gloves and eye shields when carrying out this operation.
What daily routine and maintenance should be carried out?
The safety switch should be checked daily. Also the filter on the suction equipment should be shaken free of dust or changed every other month.
Can the crusher be washed to remove any residue of wine or beer left after bottles have been ground?
When necessary wash the grinding unit with soap and warm water to avoid bad odours. Place a bucket under the outlet and a hose inside the feeding tube below inlet to suction equipment. Start crusher and hose clean.
